This board happens to be available at Digikey for 450. They're cool because you can fiddle with the DAC settings like different sampling modes. The PCM decoder uses multibit oversampling techniques. It has dedicated DSD inputs and can apply a 50kHz filter to ADD inputs to conform to Scarlet Book specifications (that is, the specs for SACDs), or bypass it. This is a 24-bit device with sampling rate support to 192kHz. Usually anyone can purchase evaluation boards for any chip. The DAC functionality is based around a Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC chip. I picked up one of their engineering boards for their flagship DAC, the CS4398. The CS4398 accepts PCM data at sample rates from 32 kHz to 216 kHz, DSD audio data, has selectable digital filters, consumes little power, and delivers excellent sound quality. I used to work at an audio chip maker called Cirrus Logic. It also offers an optional path for direct DSD conversion by directly using the multi-element switched capacitor array. The CS4398 also has an proprietary DSD processor that allows for volume control and 50 kHz on-chip filtering without an intermediate decimation stage. This means that its audio performance should be very respectable.

The jitter performance of the PCM2704 is reduced by the asynchronous sampling function of the ASRC chip.
